Biography

Mr. Young has over 35 years experience in systems and safety engineering, safety analysis, proba¬bilistic safety assessment (PSA), and system security activities. He is an internationally recognized expert in PSA and has taught courses in the techniques and application of PSA to a wide variety of domestic and international clients. His career has spanned the aerospace and utility industries start¬ing with the Apollo project and involving weapons systems, energy facilities and a wide variety of nuclear reactors. He has been a key individual in the development and application of PSA tech¬niques to a wide variety of subjects since he directed the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Fault Tree Analysis activity on the NRC Reactor Safety Study (WASH-1400). Projects performed and managed by Mr. Young have involved the innovative application of PSA, reliability, safety, and security technology. The types of subjects addressed have included nuclear power reactors, healthcare processes , waste storage, test reactors, medical applications of radionuclide by-products, fuel reprocessing and weapons systems; space payload systems, booster vehicles, and launch vehicles; military aircraft and systems; LNG storage and transportation, hydroelectric dams, crude oil storage and transportation; solar thermal, photovoltaic, and wind power systems; and a utility billing system.
