Biography

Dr. Bradbury has worked on a variety of programs involving technical, regulatory, and public involvement issues and has extensive experience in both the practice and research of public involvement. In her work, she has focused on the framing and implementation of science policy issues and has emphasized the relevance of social science insights and tools to the analysis and resolution of such issues. She is currently responsible for planning and implementing stakeholder involvement activities related to a climate change research project that involves a geologic assessment of the geologic formations in the Ohio River Valley to confirm the suitability of the area for carbon capture and disposal. She has recently completed a study for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), evaluating the public involvement strategy and activities being undertaken at a number of DOE Field Office sites; the draft report is currently being reviewed. She has also recently completed a three-year term on a National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council panel evaluation of the US. Army's Chemical Weapons Non-Stockpile Program. For the past ten years, she has provided policy support to the DOE National Transportation Program, including analytic, evaluation, and facilitator support such as preparing for and facilitating biannual meetings and monthly conference calls with stakeholders concerning transportation issues. She has also written a series of reports that summarize sources of federal assistance to States and Tribes in preparing and responding to transportation emergencies involving hazardous shipments. Previous research projects include a series of evaluations of the 12 DOE Site-Specific (Citizen) Advisory Boards; a study conducted for the U.S. Army Chemical Stockpile Program of community perspectives on the risk of incineration and other technologies for disposing of chemical weapons; and a study for the Kettering Foundation into factors that contribute to controversy over policy issues involving science and technology. During the early 1990’s, she assisted in developing and implementing training programs in public involvement for DOE technical managers at Headquarters and Field Offices. In work with her previous employer, Dr. Bradbury managed the community relations program in support of the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation during 1990 and 1991, and supported the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management in its preliminary analyses of the 180(c) program, and the Environmental Assessment for the proposed repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
